Summer 2014 Reading Challenge

June 9th - August 8th, 2014
Feel like giving yourself a real challenge this summer? Take our Summer Reading Challenge! Every patron who completes the challenge receives a coupon for a treat! Prizes will be awarded for the most books read in each age group: 0-4, K-2nd, 3rd-6th, 7th-12th, and Adult and everyone who completes the Challenge will be put in the drawing for a Grand Prize.  Pick up your Reading Tracker at the library and get ready to read! 

All Reading Trackers must be turned in by August 11th.

Children ages 0-4
30 books read to them during the program

Kindergarten through 2nd Grade, 3rd through 6th Grade
30 books read on their own. When reading a lengthy chapter book, every 50 pages may count for 1 book.

7th Grade through High School & Adults

8 books read during the program

Beginning Bookworms
An interactive Infant/Toddler literacy experience!

Parent participation is required.

Often called a Lap Sit, Beginning Bookworms is a perfect opportunity to introduce your littlest one to the joys of books and reading. Spend time with them exploring books, singing songs and creating in a relaxed environment.

4 Sessions Only
June 19th & 26th, July 3rd & 10th

Book Club
5th & 6th Graders

Independent reading and guided group discussion with activities and light snacks. Participants will be provided a copy of the book.

Reading Rangers
Story Hour for Pre-K through 2nd Grade

Parent participation not required.

Children will have a grrrr-eat time listening to stories, doing crafts & activities and enjoying a light snack.

Three sessions to choose from!

Jr. Book Club – Sponsered by the Pittsfield Lions Club
A combination Story Hour/Book club for 3rd & 4th Graders.



As a group, children will read & listen to the book Babymouse: Our Hero. There will be guided discussions, crafts & activities related to the book, and a light snack.

Every child who completes the Jr. Book Club will receive a copy of the book read. 


Sessions will be held for 5 weeks
